“I respect the work I do” _ LesaH

Insert : LesaH is aspired to inspire others.

An ongoing campaign that I started doing a couple of weeks called “My town; My people Campaign ’17 helped me to cross path with this beautiful and talented young lady from my hometown (Clewer), we actually had talks about collaborating on a number of projects together in the near future, yet with her sheer grace and dedication to her work; it was only fair that I do a piece on her work as she is always “aspired to inspire”. LesaH (Palesa Matshiga) is a rare breed like every one of us and she has a lot of giving and helping to do through her entrepreneurial capability and desire to create jobs and platforms for others. In this feature, she talks about her dreams, blueprints and music.

Q: Please take me through your creative process through your music, what is your role are you a vocalist or an emcee?
A: Well, I go by the name LesaH and I am a vocalist and an emcee.

Q:  Full names
A: my real name is Palesa Buhlebemvelo Matshiga

Q: How did you first realize you can sing? 
A: I’ve always enjoyed watching singing competitions like IDOLS, THE VOICE etc. and used to play "IDOLS" at my house with my friends who are now also musicians. Entered solo competitions at school (primary) got good remarks and certificates, which is where i realized that i actually love singing and music as a whole.

 Q: why did you choose music?
A: I chose music uhm, because it gives me a sense of belonging, when i feel like I don’t fit in or belong anywhere. It gives me a chance to express myself a bit more.

Q: Place of birth
A: Man I’m straight from the coal, I was born and raised in Witbank (emalahleni) and my hometown is CLEWER.

Q: Current project?
A: Well! I ‘m about to working on a joint EP with a local artist that I really can’t mention now…

Q: What kind of effect would you like your music to have on people?
A: I would actually like my music to touch people's lives. I want it to speak out for young people like me who cannot speak for themselves, who are afraid to express themselves and their emotions on a daily basis. Not only have an effect on young people but also older people, in order for them to understand what we a youth are going through.

Q: what is most important to you, lyrics or beat?
A: lyrics are very important, because as a musician you have to understand what you are saying and what message you are portraying to your audience.

Q: Why is your music important to you?
A: it is very important, because it gives me a chance to be me.

Q: How does your music advance the culture of music and what is your contribution in genre or what would like to contribute in your genre of music according to your own perspective?
A: New age sounds, but importantly not leaving behind the foundation of meaning to the music.

 Q: Where do you lay down your tracks? Are you indie or signed with a label?
A: I am signed under CARNEGEE BEATS, and I work with a lot of producers and artists from around my city.

Q: Where would you like your music to be listened to the most? Who do you target with every song that you make?
A: I would like my music to be broadcast in all radio stations across South Africa; depending on the mood I am in, I can say my music is targeted to everyone.

Q: How do you decide on the features for your songs?
A: I know a lot of artists, so I decide according to their own music and how they portray their sound.

 Q: What inspires your music?
A: Well, I inspire my own music and also seeing the work done by the people I work with also pushes and inspires me to work harder also the support I get from them.

Q:  What can you say about yourself?
A: All I can say about myself is that I am kind, loving, quiet, a person who enjoys her own space and I respect the work I do.

Q: What is your stage and why did you choose the name?
A: my stage name is LesaH; I chose that name because I did not want to lose my real name's identity.

Q: Future plans?
A: Future plans are to create opportunities for more artists to showcase their talents; seeing myself grow in the music industry.

 Q: What are you studying current and why?
A: I am studying Business Management, the reason why I chose this course or career is because I want to see myself growing LesaH's brand and also having my own companies creating opportunities for other people.

A: Jolly; kind and tenderhearted.
