The New Emalahleni FM presenter.
The destination is at the end of the journey. The journey is the beginning of your destiny. Take the first step to your destiny by starting your journey. You are in a perfect place and in fact right now; there’s no perfect time than now. We are Vaseline faces and cracked soles. Energy is all rhetorical to our skin hue. Poverty is privilege; I mean we couldn’t have come up with so many ideas out of one simple term called “art”; if it wasn’t for the fact that we had to use our brain and imagination to get out of the township stigma; set of rules and surrounding that fuel us up all the time to find better grammar in writing poetry, see beauty in canvas paintings drawn in our bedrooms turned studios or music recorded in a place called bedroom studios with the name bedroom producers hanging over our heads.
The is a light at the end of the tunnel which is true or in our case; we can say “the is no light at the beginning of the tunnel. Please encrypt this phrase to your minds as we focus on the subject of this article. Gugu “Lady G” Baloyi, Radio presenter at eMalahleni FM; Editor of The LINK journal. She was born in the city of coal (eMalahleni) during the early 90’s and she has been an art fanatic from an early age which led her to be part of various projects including 240dot39km2 (Art Magazine), Thaba Chweu Community Newspaper (Nelspruit), Campus Vibes on ETV’s (Open View). We are familiar with the unpopularity of making a career out of art in our society, It is the same in the community which she comes from as it is known for its richness of coal and you are kind of expected to literally , bite the dust and flee to nearby big cities to even start to remotely think about having a career in the arts. Which is a huge dilemma cause without the support of siblings and spouses, it is very next to impossible to achieve anything at all or even have anything good come out of it at all.
She has managed to keep herself going by taking part in projects that are either art based or have a lot to do with journalism as she has a post-graduate certificate in community journalism from the University of South Africa (UNISA). You must recall what I said to you: The is no light at the beginning of the tunnel. The best way for her to earn an income was to find jobs which included working as a cashier and a pre-school teacher. No matter how bad things fell apart or all hope seem lost she managed to stay true to her passion and something always came up, my dear friends, you must always remind yourself that no matter how bad or worse situations may appear to be, your heart and the will to keep on going will see you through all of it. The key things are focus, determination and discipline.
You can catch her on the 3 – 6 pm show Isiphithiphithi afternoon drive weekdays with her co-host s Sphamandla Ndwadwe and Phumzile Hlatswayo on eMalahleni FM.
