Akhona Tayi was born in a rural area of the Eastern Cape called Mlomonyoko in Ramra. I’m a poet and emcee, I go by the name Noqhakancu , the name symbolises hunter-gatherers. He recite and raps in Xhosa a South African language. He believes that using his home language will help older people to relate with/to the message in his songs.

It all started when He picked up a series of  books titled Isibane 2 and 3, a book which his older brother was using at school at  senior secondary level. He was puzzled by the books until he picked two poems out of the books known as Imfundo and Ingoma, that inspired him to write his own set of poems at the age of 15 while attending grade 8 at Ramra Junior Secondary school.

A couple of years later, nothing seem to be working for him, because where he was situated ,they didn’t have any recording studio’s, shows or other tools to help him. It was in 2009 that he decided to live his hometown to purse hislove for music and poetry, he travelled to every corner of south Africa in search of a better life.2010 saw him relocating to a small town called Clewer in Witbank, Mpumalanga He  met a guy by the name of Dan Cabler who he later featured on a track called Never die  With demotivation. Dan Cabler Introduced him to local producers such as Tebogo Nkambule who produced the beat for Never die with demotivation and also recorded the official track for a group called Definition of Sounds called We are rocking this crowd,  which featured a lot of artist from a variety of genres.

2013,three years after endless recording of unreleased material and collaboration saw his debut LP which is called PAKA. This LP include most of the songs which he produced on his own after years of longing to rap and recite on beats that will accommodate his style, rhythm and energy. Dmasol the crazy rapper is also featured on some of the songs
and he was the engineer on this project and produced some of the songs in the LP. The LP is him trying out ideas, "People might spot some mistakes on the production of this Project but we want them to know that we are doing us and we are growing towards the kind of music and poetry that we want to make” that is what he was quoted saying regarding the LP.
