The Beat is the foundation of my writing
Kingsley the 1st born Dilon Nkosinathi Mathebula at Embalenhle is an independent artist who
currently lives in Witbank, Lynnville. He intensely believes going digital with your music is the best
way to cut off the middleman and have boundaries set as he profess to the whole world being his
target market. He also declares “I am a man first and foremost and I believe in the greater powers
even though I get mistaken for a person who thinks and acts like a deity, often. I’m all things good
and I give everything I do my best shot”. A hip hop artist and emcee who like Ashford Cashman
believes “Life inspires my music”. In addition, uttered: Music is life….life is music, without music
there is no life. It is a sacred balance I found whilst trying to find myself.
Hip hop is a way that he can use to express himself without limitation like a wolf running around on
the wilderness in a full moon like in a scene of the Twilight movie; Kingsley fell in love with hip hop
while bumping his brother’s music, which had a lot of Eminem music on his collection and would
later dare him to write his own lyrics as he was finding it easy to rap to slim shady’s music; he did.
Over the years, that skill led to the making of “twist of fate” a record which took him a lot of time
to make due to the relationship that he had to emerge before any concept could be put on paper
thus engaging in it by the incipient of body, mind and spirit since this record was meant to portray
the direction of his life and it did just that at the end.
Shattered Reflections is his current project that features a lot of experimental work yet carries a lot
of emotions within the project. The key factor in all of his music and that can be found in this latest
project is the endless effort to make music that will help people who are depressed come to terms
with their struggles and encounters that are unknown to others and seem to be unkind towards
them. Making music also helped him through tough times and it will be a blessing to him to know
that people who listen to his music use it as a tool to never give up or give in at any point.
Through the help of three beat makers who assist him to send his message across and through the
bond that he has formed with them; helped him realize that the beat in the songs is as important
as the lyrics as they both play a role that is equal and either one is complete without the other.
Although, he hardly features anyone on his songs, he has been on a lot of features and gets to
feature on song that connects with him on a spiritual realm.
When asked about how his music advance the culture of hip hop? And what is his contribution in
his own perspective, He replied “I feel like I help keep it alive actually. Lyricism is an indigenous
capability. It is when my mind is fully unlocked and I have no filters that I easily turn to express
myself the best way I can which actually sees no repetition of words unless it is a hook. I’m a very
expressive individual and a huge believer of the freedom of speech, which is exactly what this
genre of music has helped me to accomplish as an artist and also excel in it. I love the fact that it
gives a listener a chance to know that artist better and easily relate to their work. In closing, I’m
here to remind you that you can be whomever you want, say whatever it’s on your mind without
fear or favor. Remember, YOU ARE CAPABLE”.
